The Wovlen People
"Everything changed when a law passed that separated the Wovlen people from the rest of the world. The law was originally created for madmen that had come from the Wovlen people. It was supposed to keep them out of the cities. But now, because of the madmen, every Wovlen had a “W” on his right shoulder, and none of them could live a peaceful life in society. Every person without the mark hated them." - The Dragons Son
Who Are The Wovlen?
Wovlen - plural and singular
Pronounced: WOE-va-len
Pronounced: WOE-va-len
The Wovlen are a hardy group of people known best for their wild nature and fierce fighting styles. In The Dragon's Son, the Wovlen are distinguished by a "W' mark on their right shoulder.
The Wovlen ancestors came from the Unknown Lands and established a kingdom that sat on the border of what is now known as the "Dragon's Forest" and the "Giants Foothills". The Wovlen were rarely ruled by a single king, but most often by a group of kings who shared the responsibility of ruling.
Sitting at the heart of the Wovlen kingdom was a small mountain of stone, an inactive volcano which they called "Esla Vlurl Himurk" - Lone Wolf Mountain. The mountain was their capitol and it was where the Wovlen kings lived and ruled.
Three hundred years before Keegan's time, Lone Wolf Mountain was attacked and subsequently taken over by a red dragon. The Wovlen were driven from their kingdom by the dragon and scattered all across the land. The massive forest surrounding the Mountain and the Wovlen kingdom became occupied with dangerous monsters and dragons, making it impossible for the Wovlen, or anyone else, to return to the once great kingdom.
Over time, the mountain, the red dragon, and all Wovlen history became shrouded in myth. The only two things that remained strong in the memories of the Wovlen was their hatred and fear of dragons, and a prophecy that foretold of a dragon slayer's son becoming a Dragon's Son, who would reunite the Wovlen people and return their kingdom to them.
